New Release! Nearly there!

I’ve been a little remiss.  Haven’t blogged in a long, long time.  The truth is, I often wonder what on Earth to blog about.  I mean, why would anyone want to know about my life?  It’s so dull, even I’m not interested!

Anyway, I’ve got something to blog about today!  The new book, X.  It’s currently being formatted, and I’m hoping it’ll be ready to publish within the next few days.  It’s the first book in a new trilogy: X, Y, Z.

Last year, I accidentally read a trilogy in the wrong order.  It didn’t particularly matter to me though, because you virtually always know the outcome in romance.  And that’s where the idea for X, Y, Z came from.  It’s the journey that counts, not the destination.

So, this is an erotic romance trilogy, based around three brothers – Max, Sebastian and Zach – one book per brother, working backwards in time.  By the end of X, you’ll know exactly who ends up with who.  Y and Z will then fill in the details, but you’ll be safe in the knowledge there’s a HEA for all the main characters.  There are two main challenges for me:

• Dropping in hints of things to come and remembering to answer all the questions I’ve left behind;
• Making sure there are still twists and surprises along the way.

On the subject of knowing the end, let’s be completely honest here!  When the hero and heroine get together in a romance, or an erotic romance, it’s hardly ever a surprise.  In fact, because books like this are an escape from reality, the HEA is usually an expectation.  We knew Ana and Christian would end up happy in 50 Shades, just like we knew Jane would marry Mr Rochester in Jane Eyre, but it didn’t spoil our enjoyment.  Some of us re-read our favourite romance novels just to relive those delicious romances.  I know I do!  And with books I’ve never read before, I often flick to the end, just to make absolutely sure there’s a HEA before I read any further than the first few chapters.  I’ve been doing that a lot with Georgette Heyer.

And on the subject of the HEA, here’s something I found interesting recently.  There was quite a bit of controversy over Andrew Davies’ adaptation of Jane Austen’s unfinished novel, Sanditon.  If you’ve not seen it, it’s a great series with some fantastic acting.  So make sure you watch!  It introduced me to Theo James, an actor I’d never heard of before.  I thoroughly recommend it, especially the dance scene.  *Swoons.*  However, viewers were manipulated into believing Sidney and Charlotte would get together at the end.  Austen herself said: ‘My characters shall have, after a little trouble, all that they desire.’  So the actual ending of Season One caused uproar when fans had their hearts ripped out, having become totally invested in the relationship of the two main characters.  I know that Davies never intended it to finish after just one season.  I also know the cast are on standby to record Season Two in February if the series goes down well in the US.  The signs are good, and my fingers are crossed.

One other thing behind the idea of writing a trilogy backwards.  People often ask me if I’m planning on writing about minor characters in my books.  Well, because I’m working backwards in time, you’ll get the stories of those characters.  It’s all built in!
